The biggest update to the MX-5 2022 is the introduction of the new Kinetic Posture Control (KPC) stability control system. This is able to apply the brakes to the inside wheels or the rear wheel in fast turns, helping to push the car down the road to reduce body tilt. Mazda says the system works automatically in the background and doesn’t interfere with the car’s direct driving experience.

Mazda has also added a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint finish to the options list for 2022.

Elsewhere, the specification of the MX-5 remains unchanged. The entry-level 130 hp 1.5-liter petrol engine is available in the SE-L and Sport trims, and handles 0-62 mph in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 127 mph. The larger 182 hp 2.0-liter engine is offered in the premium Sport Tech and GT Sport Tech trims, and offers improved performance from 0 to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph . Fuel economy figures are estimated at 40-44 mpg for both engines, with CO2 emissions ranging from 142 g / km to 171 g / km.

Rear-wheel drive is standard on all models, along with a six-speed manual transmission. The RF hardtop model can be fitted with an optional automatic transmission with the larger 2.0-liter engine.
