Edu receives £84m price tag for Arsenal transfer target as Aubameyang replacement search continues

Arsenal have reportedly been quoted an £84million price tag for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The Gunners are in the hunt for a top leader this summer after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona in the January transfer window. To make matters even more complicated, Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are in the final four months of their respective contracts at the Emirates Stadium and understands the North Londoners could be looking to bring in two centre-forwards this summer.

Lille’s Jonathan David and Real Sociedad star Jonathan Isak are two of many names that have been mooted as potential targets for technical director Edu. Now, NapoliGazzetta dello Sport (via sports witness ) have reported that Arsenal are interested in the aforementioned Osimhen.

The report also claims that a move will only happen if the Gunners can shell out around €100m (£84m) for the Nigeria international. Osimhen joined Napoli for a fee of £58million plus add-ons in the summer of 2020 and has since netted 25 goals and seven assists for the Italian giants.

The 23-year-old has already been heavily linked with a move alongside Mikel Arteta and he even turned down a chance to move to North London as a teenager. “I spoke with Arsene Wenger after the tournament ended (Under-17 World Cup in 2015) and he wanted me to come to Arsenal,” he said in a 2020 interview.

“I had a lot of options. Barcelona; InterMilan; Atletico Madrid; Juventus and the others.

“Arsenal was a good option but it wasn’t the best at the time. I wanted to start playing when I was 18.

“I wanted to go somewhere where I had time to invest in my game and improve physically. Wolfsburg showed me that possibility.”
