Newcastle want to sign ‘new Karim Benzema’ but price is an issue
Newcastle United want Amine Gouiri but the Nice striker may be too expensive for the Magpies this summer.
Newcastle have now secured three key signings this summer with a strong backline focus in Eddie Howe.
Left-back Matt Targett has been granted a permanent transfer after impressing on loan from Aston Villa in the second half of last season.
Goalkeeper Nick Pope and defender Sven Botman have also arrived at Newcastle, bolstering Howe’s defensive setup for next season and beyond.
Attacking reinforcements will also be sought but some targets are proving rather difficult to sign.
Newcastle United wants Amine Gouiri
Newcastle are pursuing Reims hitman Hugo Ekitike but that deal seems unlikely.
Moussa Diaby will be very expensive and Everton may not sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin having just sold Richarlison to Tottenham.
Newcastle must look elsewhere, but a deal for Nice star Amine Gouiri also looks tricky.
The Northern Echo Claim that Newcastle want Nice striker Gouiri but feel the asking price will be way beyond them this summer.
Gouiri, 22, excelled for Nice last season, racking up 12 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.
Primarily a striker or left winger who can cut on his right foot, Gouiri would have given Newcastle a versatile attacking threat.
Yet with Nice under no pressure to sell, they seem to be demanding huge sums of money for the the former Lyonnais nicknamed the “new Karim Benzema”.
The Frenchman has a huge future ahead of him and it looks like his valuation will continue to rise and rise over the next few years.
Newcastle may have a lot of money under PIF rule, but they won’t be required to pay a ransom and will have strict assessments on their targets.
Gouiri is one of them where Newcastle might be keen to sign him, but the exorbitant fee required just doesn’t represent the value for money they are looking for at the moment.
