West Ham make Armando Broja ‘priority target’ but exorbitant price tag could prevent deal
West Ham have reportedly made Chelsea striker Armando Broja a prime target as David Moyes looks to bolster his attack this summer.
Broja was a regular starter on loan at Southampton in the 2021/22 campaign. The 20-year-old has six goals in 32 Premier League appearances and will now return to his hometown club Chelsea. However, it is believed that West Ham are looking to make this comeback a short while as they want to bring him into the London stadium.
According Football InsiderWest Ham have now expressed interest in Broja as they seek a centre-forward.
West Ham are desperate to sign a new striker once the window opens. As a result, the club have named a number of potential targets on their summer wishlist.
The report says that among the potential signings, Broja remains a prime target. Nonetheless, the Hammers will face fierce competition for his signature.
Newcastle united and Southampton are also said to be monitoring his situation. Italian outfit Napoli are also fans of the young striker.
That being said, any interested clubs might be put off by his advertised price tag.
TuttoMercatoWeb suggested in March that Chelsea valued Broja at £57.8million. While Moyes is a huge admirer of the Albanian striker, West Ham won’t hesitate to pay close to that amount.
This means the club either have to consider a loan deal or find a new target.
Armando Broja has yet to prove himself
That assessment reportedly came from Chelsea in March. Since then, Broja has gone ten Premier League games without a goal.
The youngster spent the previous season on loan with Vitesse in the Eredivisie. During this period, Broja managed 12 goal contributions in 30 league games.
Broja has also earned seven caps for the Albania international team, scoring three and assisting two in those games.
Nonetheless, his reported price tag of £57.8million is certainly excessive given his poor form at the end of the season.
It’s understandable that Chelsea value him so much, given his age and keen eye for goal.
Armando Broja wanted by West Ham for huge price
Chelsea striker Armando Broja on loan at Southampton is wanted by West Ham but they will have to pay over £40m
But if a club were to match their valuation with an offer, it would undoubtedly be a big risk.
With experience clearly needed, a loan move to somewhere offering first-team football would be ideal for Broja.
West Ham are desperate for cover and someone to compete with Michail Antonio up front. And after qualifying for the Europa Conference League, Broja would have plenty of opportunities to be used as a substitute.
In that sense, the agreement makes sense. However, at this stage, it’s unclear if Chelsea are looking to loan him out or if Thomas Tuchel has other plans for his young wonderkid.
